Scattergun return.

Well, as you can see, I haven't updated in almost two months. For some reason, I just didn't have the outrage I normally do. Maybe it was the weather. However, now that the weather is heating up, I've noticed a change in my outrage level. So, with that, I give you a scattergun approach to several little items over the last couple months that have pissed me off, but not enough to warrant a full entry.

Let's start with Betty Ireland. How many more damn times do I have to hear about her having the voting machines on display for people to use and get used to. I mean, for Christ's sake, it's a bubble-in sheet, or a touch screen. They act like it's some sort of space shuttle launch. I don't care if some 80 year old is scared they can't understand it. If they have enough brain cells to read and punch a stylus on the punch card systems, they can figure out the bubble-in sheets. And if they can't, well, they shouldn't be voting.

Ireland was at the WV Power game Thursday, all over the radio again, with her demo voting machines, blah blah blah. I just hope, that after the election, we don't have to constantly hear about what great work she's doing educating the public on how to fill in a scantron sheet, or touch a computer screen. If she spent one-tenth the time she does crowing about how she's educating the people on these new machines, on actually cleaning up the elections in WV, we'd all be better off. Give it a rest, Betty. You'll strain your arm patting yourself on the back every day.

Moving right along, let's take a look at what Papa Joe Cheerleader was doing last week. Oh, that's right, while he was up in Morgantown, celebrating Randall McCloy's release from the hospital, the state complex's elevators were all shutting down. I haven't commented much on the mine disasters, but the absolute, total, grandstanding by Papa Joe during the Sago thing, was absolutely disgusting. And to then go up there with a specially made West Virginia road sign, called "Miracle Road" to give to Mr. McCloy? Are you kidding me? Could this BE any cheesier? Methinks not. He has absolutely no shame whatsoever. Get a TV camera there, and Papa Joe will be front and center.

While Papa Joe was "signing," the capitol complex workers were climbing. Papa Joe gets an F for effort there. Yeah, I know. Big surprise.

Hmmmmm. Let's see. Oh, the elections are coming up. Dave Higgins running for State Senate wants to build a NASCAR track in eastern Kanawha County? I wonder if he can't get any money for it, will he look to create legislation to impose some new sort of worker tax to fund it? In case you didn't know, Higgins, on Charleston's City Council, was a staunch supporter of Dannyboy's Worker Tax. Yeah, he needs more access to statewide taxpayer money. Like I need a hole in my head.

Logan's Law. You have got to be kidding me. To all you clamoring for Logan's law to be passed "to protect the children," let me just say, that even if Logan's Law was in place, little Logan would not have been protected. It would have not prevented what happened to him. So, if you want to just jack up the sentences on people who hurt kids, just say so. I don't have any problem with that. Don't give it some cutesy little name, that implies that to not pass it, would not protect children. That's cheapass, election-year rhetoric. You hear that, Sprouse? If you truly are concerned about protecting kids, maybe you should clean up your own mess before grandstanding on Logan's law.

And the other big issue that gobbled up a huge chunk of the legislator's time was the parental notification bill. For crying out loud. It's never enough with the pro-life crowd. They got their Lacy Peterson bill passed last year (another example of stupid cutesy naming of legislation, because the proponents think the masses are too dumb to understand the law). And this year, they spent seemingly weeks debating the parental notification bill. We should just change our motto to "West Virginia: We’ve taken re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, to a whole new level."

However, one good thing comes from the legislature on an election year. They typically have a do-nothing session. That means they generally can't screw up as many things as they do during a non-election year session. They should just cancel the sessions in election years, and save the taxpayers the cost of them spending 2 months doing nothing.

Oh, and Shelly Moore Capito took money from Jack Abramoff? No way!!! A West Virginia politician named Moore engaged in receiving money from questionable sources and a felony conviction somewhere in the mix? I think Yogi said it best. It's deja vu all over again. The apple does not fall far from the tree.

And the latest shenanigans from the Mingo County DOH office? Supposedly (according to the Gazette) Truman Chafin didn't like the way some bridges and roads weren't getting done, so he orchestrated the re-assignment of the DOH supervisor over to Logan county, supposedly until after the election. I'm sure that's the first time that's ever happened in Mingo County.

Truman also got a case of the ass over the cheesy lawyer ads? Hell, those are some of the funniest damn commercials on TV. Truman needs to back the hell off. The State Bar doesn't need to be wasting time, and its seemingly infinite resources worrying about whether some lawyer's radio jingle is "in good taste." I wonder what kind of "taste" it takes to orchestrate the removal of a DOH supervisor, because he won't pave your buddy's road, or build a bridge to his house, ahead of previously scheduled projects. Truman complaining about lawyer jingles is like a serial killer complaining about cartoon violence on TV.

In your blogs you complain about WV being soooo behind the other states in this nation, yet you have a problem with the legislature trying to modernize our societal standards in a bible belt state by passing parental notification?! Where have you been - that should have been done years and ago. If you haven't noticed - 2 state legislatures passed laws this year BANNING almost ALL abortions (1 even made it a crime). If you want WV to be at the forefront - then you should have advocated their stance on abortion. Anything less (including parental notification) is passe.

The reason Betty Ireland is so adamant about "teaching" us how to use touch screen voting machines is because she wants us to use them...badly. E-voting machines have been shown to be unreliable, hackable, and full of failures. I promote progress as much as the next guy, but these machines are only made by a few companies and have not been proven to be efficient. Jerry Waters is pushing them hard too on radio and his message board, but won't allow any informative debate on it. Something stinks.

wow - it looks like Bing agrees with me on the abortion issue. YES!

Oh, and changing abortion laws to more draconian measures, is not "progress." It is only change. Learn the difference.

I don't think banning abortion would be considered "draconian" to the unborn human being in the womb Bing. I guess you believe they want to die before they come out into the world. The problem is - they can't tell us what they want yet either way - hence the protection our society should (and in some states now) will afford them. I guess you are against the Declaration of Independence too (ya know - the whole "LIFE, LIBERTY, and pursuit of happiness" thing).

well its been 3 days since I posted and no response - I guess Bing is speechless. Could it be that he is finally coming around?! Who woulda thought?!

Bwhahahahahahah. Coming around? To the backward-ass thinking of the pro lifers? Don't flatter yourself.

I guess you also think abortion should not be allowed, even in cases of incest, rape, or even danger to the mother? Because in those cases, the unborn child doesn't want to die either.

You don't think it's "draconian," because you are ignorant.

Purposely kill one life (the babies) for the sake of saving another (the mother's) - yah - that sounds real fair. And I noticed you dodged the Declaration comment - because you didn't have anything to counter that - and I don't blame you - because there is nothing to counter with. It sais what it sais - maybe you would like to re-write it for all of us since it wasn't good enough the first time?!

Blogger bingmanch said...

I didn't "dodge" it. It's a stupid-assed argument that doesn't even deserve a response, but since you want someone to disprove every idiotic statement you make, here you go.

The Declaration of Independece is not LAW, dumbshit. In fact, it was written 10+ years PRIOR to the constitution. Honestly, it is nothing more than a "position paper." A masterfully crafted one, to be sure, but it's not a legal document, by any stretch of the law. There is no absolute right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Those terms do NOT appear in the constitution.

Otherwise, we could not kill any criminals, or sentence them to prison, or deny anyone anything they want that makes them happy. What if my "pursuit of happiness" includes smoking pot, or shooting herion, or snorting coke? Or what if I want to gamble $$? Those things may just be my "pursuit of happiness."

Are you now saying that I have an inalienable right to do all that, because of the Constitution?

Now, go get your shinebox.

Wow - you ignored the abortion issue all together. I am shocked you don't understand the original intent of the wording "pursuit of happiness." But when you do learn it you will re-think your response above. The fact that you trivialize one of western society's most important documents is also amazing and pretty sad indeed.

5/08/2006 12:22 AM
Blogger bingmanch said...

No, what's really sad, is you are unable to understand the proper place in US history of the declaration of independence and the us constitution.

But it's even more sad and amazing that you are still so stuck on the bible banging mentality that "omg life begins at conception."

That's the same type of backwoods, ignorant mentality that keeps West Virginia lagging behind the rest of the nation.

Like I said, by your logic of "pursuit of happiness" i guess I have a complete right to gamble, drink and take drugs, if that is how I pursue happiness.

Study of the founders and the constitution itself clearly shows that the Declaration and its principles were held in high regard. That is called History.

Additionally, I am again suprised that you don't know the original intent of the phrase "pursuit of happiness" (hint: it doesn't mean we should all be libertarians. need more clues?)

As for my biblebanging..... I looked above - bible is not cited. So not sure where you got that from. News flash dude - life at conception is a pretty widely held belief - not just among Christians.

WV is last in alot of things - but its not because it is a state with many christians. Just look at todays election results.

So many say - the problem is that people are leaving the state - which is to some extent true, but -preventing human beings from being born here to begin with certainly doesn't help!

Nah, not speechless. I just don't make my life revolve around refuting every idiot's comments that feel they need attention.

Like I said, it's already apparent that you don't understand the place in "history," and the significance that the declaration of independence holds, so why should I try and educate you?

Oh, and the courts, as well as US law, don't agree with your life begins at conception idiocy. Thankfully, that's all that matters. Of course, if it's so widely held as you say, I'd think a constitutional amendment banning all abortions, would be easy to achieve. I wonder why that hasn't happened.

For whatever reason, you fail to grasp that concept. But you keep up the bible banging, and the rest of us in the world, will pass you right on by.

Maybe we'll send you a postcard from the 21st century.

You are the one that needs educated about History. Guess you slept through it in school. If you want/need help here I would be happy to help. And you still haven't said you really understand the originial intent of the term "pursuit of happiness" - need help there too?

And as for your courts reference - Just remember - as the makeup of the court changes, so does their stances on issues. I am sure you will LOVE it in the years to come! whoops - i mean I will!

Again you reference my "biblebanging". What are you talking about? and since you continue to repeat that - I wonder - do you have a problem with christians and jesus christ?

1) To be fair - I did go to the site you referenced. The problem is - polls are worthless, and as an "intellectual" I would think you would know this. Guess not.

2) Looks like your view of the abortion issue reveals you are a big federal government kinda guy. Guess not a big fan of state's rights. You do know that the Supreme Court WILL reverse itself on Roe right? Man are you gonna be mad! While I am gonna be thrilled and able to say "I told you so"

2) you still have no clue about how the founders viewed and used the Dec. of Indep. Its not rocket science Bing.

3) You still have no clue what the term "pursuit of happiness" meant to the author of such language.
I will tell you if you want me to, however it IS common knowledge.

4) A Quote from Goodfellas - come on Bing - you can do better then THAT! Did you really go to WVU? If you did - maybe the Univ. is overrated.

Stevie, do you forget that I have already slapped you into oblivion countless times on Waters' message board?

You are a right wing, bible banging, fundamentalist, just like I said previously in this thread. You think kids should be taught religious dogma on the state's dime in the form of creationist bullshit.

And what you don't know about the constitution, the declaration of independence, the law, and american history, would fill countless libraries.

Oh, and about the university? Don't be a hater, just because you went to West Virginia State Community College. I guess you can thank god for open enrollment policies, eh?

Oh, and you keep thinking that the USSC will reverse itself on Roe. You keep right on thinking that. Part of the fun will be watching the bible bangers like yourself, hop up and down and cry like little children, when it doesn't.

And you should know (or maybe they don't teach statistical analysis at WVSCC) that polls done scientifically and with the proper sample size and composition, are very accurate.

Like I said, now go get your fucking shinebox.

Wow - I tried to give you a point by point and you didn't even hardly answer them - whats up with that - I guess to some you had no answer (you ignore the "pursuit of happiness" issue time and again when alittle time and research would reveal to you the answer - (and again - its NOT libretarian stances on issues like you mentioned in earlier posts - hate to tell ya).

While I agree with you that polls can be well done, that doesn't change the fact that they are dealing with people's answers - and people can lie, misunderstand, being hurrying as they answer etc etc. So - while they can be somewhat reflective, they are still worthless in the grand scheme.

As for your USSC comment - where ya been Bing? Have you noticed the last 2 appointments? Another 4 year Republican term and its potentially a done deal that Roe will be overturned. That may scare you - but that is the truth.

There you go again with your description of me. For the record though - I am NOT a biblebanger. Though YOU are a bible basher - you obviously don't believe in creationism/the bible, don't like christians, and probably were mad at the President for mentioning God on Government government property in his speech the other night. I am in no way mad you feel that way - simply feel sad for you (for obvious reasons).

As for the college thing - I am sure WVU is proud to have a guy like you as an alum - with your adult language (and reference to lowbrow movies) that you seem to think bolsters your arguement - or makes you seem cool. You obviously haven't been out of school too long or have kids - or I am sure you wouldn't act like that.

That also, by definition, makes you a first class bible banger.

you never do seem to be able to say that you don't believe in the bible - what are you so afraid of Bing? For someone who thinks they are so smart - your answers are never thorough. There is so much you fail to address. Imagine that.........

Listen up, stevie. I said it before, I'm only going to say it again, once more. I don't need to type long responses to respond to your ignorance. You get the responses you deserve. Actually, you get more than you deserve.

ah - and Bing - unable to intellectually respond - loses yet again. Dude - i expected more out of you then that. (PS - I asked if you believed in the bible - that doesn't take a "long response" - its a yes or no answer - albeit with great consequences)

6/03/2006 12:21 PM

That just shows how intellectually vapid you are, steve anderson. There's a lot of people on this planet, who are very religious, and don't "believe in the bible."
