The top 6 reasons why West Virginia is pitifully last in just about everything.

From left to right:
That big black hole is Congressman Alan Mollohan. He basically became Congressman when his dad vacated the same office. Gotta love that free name recognition (especially in a state where we elect people like Glen Gainer Auditor). His new nickname should be "Nowhere Man." He doesn't actually exist on the internet as his Wikipedia entry points out (and is backed up by his House webpage - check out how to contact him), he's the only member of congress who doesn't have a public email address.
Next to Nowhere Man, is our illustrious Governor, Joe Manchin, aka Papa Joe Cheerleader. Known for tirelessly cheering the State on, in the face of overwhelming (or maybe more appropriately, oblivious to) facts to the contrary. Of course, where would he be without the tutelage of his late Uncle A James, the most famous wearer of fireman hats in West Virginia's history? I know where the rest of us would be - about 300 million dollars to the good from where we are now.
Next to Papa Joe Cheerleader, is our very own, Robert "Sheets" Byrd. Who knows how much money he's salted away in his 60 plus years in Washington for himself? Pretty good for a guy who spent the 1940's being a member of the KKK. Of course, he says he's no longer a racist. He just likes to still use the "n" word from time to time, he voted against the only two black US Supreme Court nominees in history, and has said the KKK basically gets a bad rap.
And next to Sheets, is our very own (well, once he came here from New York and bought his way into politics) Jay Rockefeller. He's got more money than he'll ever be able to spend in 100 lifetimes, thanks to his family's ownership of Standard Oil. Evidently he couldn't hack politics in his home State of New York, so he went somewhere he knew he could simply buy his way to the top.
And next to Jayboy, is our very own Shelly Moore Capito, who is still closely advised in the background by her convicted felon, bribe-taking father, Arch Moore. I'm sure he's given her lots of advice like "Don't do money exchanges at gas stations," and "public money is yours to steal as you wish" and "before you say anything, always make sure they aren't wearing a wire," and lastly "Never, ever, under any circumstances, show any remorse for anything you've done. Even if you are convicted."
And lastly is our very own, Nick Rahall. He seems to think there's nothing wrong with his sister being the chief lobbyist for the country of Qatar, where she's paid $15,000 per month to look out for their interests. I wonder how much of that money ended up in Nicky's pockets. Nicky is also a chief enemy of anything that even appears to be pro-Israel. He was the lone US Congressman voting against a resolution calling for the end of the Arab boycott of Israel. He also met with Bashar Asaad and with Saddam prior to the invasion of Iraq, among other questionable actions regarding terrorism. He's got all the time in the world to hang out with some of the world's most disgusting dictators and terrorist supporters, but he can't be bothered to defend the lone democracy in the middle east?
Now, with these 6 jokers in our deck of cards, is it any wonder we keep going bust?

Some advice.
With all of the very valid subjects about which to complain, you should not damage your credibility with immature personal insults, baseless character attacks and unfair attempts to make people responsible for the sins of their relatives.
You make some decent points here from time to time but you need to be more responsible if you wish to be taken seriously.
Keep it up!! Great blog!
I'm more offended by the actions of the folks being prodded here than I am with the "immature personal insults" of this blogger.
After all, this blogger did not vote to send kids into an illegal war or vote for bankruptcy bill that was practically handwritten by the credit card companies. Nor did he vote to give himself a pay raise courtesy of the taxpayer.
Besides, all of the above are Republicrats- so I'm sure personal mudslinging isn't something new to them.
Some advice.
With all of the very valid subjects about which to complain, you should not damage your credibility with immature personal insults, baseless character attacks and unfair attempts to make people responsible for the sins of their relatives.
Immature personal insults? Calling someone a carpetbagger, or questioning someone's qualifications for office (when their only qualification is that their dad basically handed them the office), or discussing someone's sordid and disgusting past regarding human rights, or discussing someone's penchant for simply giving peppy soundbites as opposed to any real substantive comments, or discussing a legislator's uncommon coziness with family connected countries, are anything BUT "immature personal insults."
Sins of their relatives? Well, with regard to A James, I can see your point. I don't agree with it, but I can see it. I don't think A James intentionally meant to lose 300 million dollars. He was just a pathetic idiot cartoon character, who should have never been given control over something like that. But, how does WV punish that type of fiscal ignorance? They send him back to the House. Papa Joe has skated in partially on his coattails. He still, however, won't address anything substantive. He's all fluff, and no substance. HE does a good job crying on tv with the miner's families, but if this stuff is so important, why didn't he ram this legislation through last year? He's closing the barn door, after the horse is already down the street. And he's LAUDED for this?
As far as Arch Moore, don't make me laugh. He took a bribe, to this day, has yet to show a single ounce of remorse, and is still a close advisor to daughter. If there is ONE person I want to make sure has no access to public money, it's Arch Moore, and if he's guiding (even if it's a small part) her career, she is most definitely fair game to be questioned on her ability to surround herself with ethical people. If your father was a womanizer, or did drugs or something, that's one thing. But, if your father did (basically) your same job, and did it criminally, and is now your advisor, you damn well are subject to criticism for that.
You make some decent points here from time to time but you need to be more responsible if you wish to be taken seriously.
You must evidently equate "responsible" with something other than the truth. There's not a fact I stated in the post, that's not true. And you know it. You simply choose to ignore them.
I wasn't defending any of the six. I was just suggesting that you could follow your own advice, avoid the fluff, and make substantive criticisms.
Mollohan, Gainer, and to a lesser extent Manchin and Caoito, certainly benefit from family political connections. Obviously, Rockefeller is rich due to his family. So? Is this news? Does it mean anything beyond that simple fact? Is it not possible that some people who benefit from family connections and money do their jobs well even if they had a leg up in getting those jobs?
Try focusing on why you think people are not doing their jobs well rather than sounding petutulant about the fact they have advantages most of us do not.
FDR and Churchill, to name but two, were the products of extreme privilege. Richard Nixon was a "self-made man."
If you pointed out that Mollohan and Rahall are two of the least powerful members of the House despite their seniority, and asked why this is so, that would be worth discussing. If you believe Rahall's support of Arab causes is wrong and/or driven by money rather than his ethnic background that would be something to discuss and explain.
If you think Manchin's worker's comp privatization is bad for WV that is an important issue. If you think he is too closely aligned with business and that workers have pretty much been abandoned by the WV Democrats that is a very important issue.
Is Capito too ambitious and more concerened about pleasing Beltway Republicans than serving West Virginia?
There is no shortage of important issues. Your dislike for people's relatives, warranted or not, is not among them.
Again, you are totally missing the point. I've already explained it to you once. No need to repeat myself. If you think I made the post simply because I "dislike peoples' relatives," you go right ahead and think that.
And I think Hippie Killer said it best one time on this blog a long time ago.
"Anonymous critics suck."
And while we are at it, I'll just add one more thing. FDR and Churchill won a world war and were from priveleged upbringing.
WV is still last in just about everything. If our Joker Squad above was a product of privelege and family name, AND they managed to effect some positive change during their tenures for WV, there'd be no need to criticize them.
It is their abject FAILURES as politicians in dragging the state out of the muck, that put them squarely in the crosshairs for criticism.
No, you miss the point. I mentioned FDR and churchill because they were great leaders "despite" having gained their positions largely due to privileged backgrounds. My point is that it is both unfair and unintelligent to attack people based on who their relatives are.
My point is you discredit yourself by making childish personal attacks and publishing lame (and poorly done) photoshop pictures of politicians rather than commenting on acts and omissions that you believe make them "abject failures." Don't whine when you are called on petty personal attacks by saying it was not your intent. If it wasn't your intent, you would not have done it.
The fact is that you hurt only yourself by stooping to the gutter. Now, people will be less inclined to listen to what you say when it does have merit because you have identified yourself as just another biased mudslinger.
That's too bad because there are MANY things about which these folks deserve to be criticized. The last thing the world needs is another blog spreading the same tired nonsense. What is needed is a forum where there is some intelligent comment on important issues. Strive for something more than joining the crowd of sophomoric malcontents. That's a hard crowd in which to stand out.
Your "anonymous critics suck" lament, I will assume was meant to be ironic as you would be an example of one.
Well, I think the picture is hysterically accurate. All too often public office in the US and West Virginia is treated like a hereditary peerage of old England, as if the kids and relatives of office holders have some sort of "right" to the vacated posts. However, the fact those relatives also get elected by the populace, also says something about the electorate's lack of knowledge and/or their lack of interest in the process.
This critic guy is probably just some disgruntled Democrat, who doesn't like it that there's five of his guys on the skewer, and only one from the other side.
Yeah, I think I addressed his concerns previously. He evidently doesn't see anything wrong with the judgment of Capito having her father slinking around her, even though he's a convicted felony bribe taking governor, who can't even accept responsibility for getting caught. Manchin is correctly labled a cheerleader, because, as I've said previously here many times, he's long on cheering, and short of substance. I don't need to re-list the instances of this, just look back over the blog. Rockefeller supposedly represents WV, but he hasn't one iota of an idea of what an average WV'ian goes through, and he never has. He's never had to worry about how to make a car payment, or an insurance payment, or worry about how his kids will pay for college. Not to mention, he came here specifically to get into politics, because he knew he could buy his way in. And Mollohan? The email thing proves that guy is an idiot, and remember, he got his job entirely because of his dad. And Sheets? Well, Sheets is Sheets. 'Nuff said there. And Rahall? Same as Capito, he's got ethical problems with the Qatar stuff. And at the end of the day, WV is still a joke, and has been for a looooooong time.
And this guy simply wants to ignore all that (and, now complains about the quality of the photoshop - as if I intended it to be some sort of masterpiece or something)? Well, nobody is forcing him to read the blog.
No. I am not a Democra tand I am not a Republican. I think there are MANY valid and intelligent criticisms to be made of people in both parties.
I just don't like juvenile superficiality.
We start with blaming Capito for what her father did. SHE didn't do it. If you have evidence of her corruption bring it on. If you have something of substance to say abourt her positions on issues that affect West Virginia then say it. It's just idiotic to attack he for who her father is. she did not choose her father. she didn't cause him to or assist him in being a crook and she is not responsible for the things he did 20 years and longer ago. He's her father. He did wrong but it is just asninine to suggest she has some obligation to "disown" him. she should be judged based on her own integrity and her own positions.
Manchin is a "cheerleader." In case you haven't figured it out promoting the state is a central role of the GOVERNOR of a state. Any governnor who does not "cheer" for his state is not doing his job. You don't transform that ridiculously foolish criticism into a valid one by appending "and he's short on substance." Conclusory allegations mean nothing unless they are supported with evidence. The evidence would seem to be directly contrary to that. you might not (and I don't) care for the nature and direction of Manchin's substantive accomnplishments but it is beyond argument he has done more in less time than either Wise or Underwood did in their entire terms. If you want to say that you think what he is doing is wrong then you could be taken seriously (if you laid out intelligible reasons why) but saying he has done nothing substantive merely suggests you are not paying attention. workers' comp privatization, tax changes, pension and health care initiatives, civil justice intervention and other substantive issues on which he has very strong positions. The real question is whether they are good or bad.
Rockefeller's rich? Gee, thanks for the flash. He's done a such a great job hiding that fact since he moved here 40 years ago. If you can just get the word out to the voters I'm sure they won't elect him to office in 2008 --for the 9th time --because it is so obvious a rich person cannot possibly represent West Virginians in the manner they want.
Mollohan is a tough nut to defend. Fortunately, for his defenders you assist them by focusing on a bad website and unpublished e-mail as "proof" your envy and dislike is well placed. Oh, and he had a father too.
"Sheets" is Sheets? "Nuff said"? Again your chidishness just makes it easier for him. You can't say anyhting about the last 60 years or so to buttress your antipathy for him? As his Klan membership is universally known it should be apparent by now that is not "nuff said" to those who don't share your personal antagonism toward him.
Rahall? How about some actual facts about how his ties to Arab government influence his decision-making? How about some information on his inability to get substantial road funds for his district despite three decades seniority?
Name calling, class envy and aspersions of one's relatives are not good substitutes for real thoughts backed by real facts.
Defending such drivel is absurd. Why not just admit you didn't have much time, didn't make much effort and dashed off an emotiuonal diatribe just to vent frustration? I'd still advise you to vent away but sleep on it before hitting the send button and discrediting yourself, but defending that rubbish suggests yopu are beyond hope. which is a shame because a well done blog on WV politics could serve a good purpose.
I think he's right on. You definitely have some sort of bone to pick, if you are spending this much time on a blog you keep complaining about as juvenile or immature.
My "bone" is that a forum that could serve a purpose is instead squandered on petty personal insults. MY criticism of this blog is CONSTRUCTIVE-- "here are serious flaws and here is how to fix them." his criticim is petulant and utterly lacking in content.
Do any of you children really think that an entry such as this will engender any meaningful dialogue. What can possibly be the point of:
"Rockefeller's rich and it's not fair he's in the Senate-- boo hoo; Capito's dad was corrupt and it's not fair she's in the House-- boo hoo. Byrd was in the Klan and it's not fair he's in the Senate-- boo hoo. It's all so like totally unfair and that's why everything sucks-- boo hoo."
If any of you actually think that has value then maybe a large reason those you don't like succeed in politics is the nature of the people opposing them. Let's face it, if the oppostion sounds just plain foolish then it is probable people will simply stick with the familiar.
stuff like this actually helps those in power, which i assume is not the intent.
Now the guy complaining about immature personal attacks, is resorting to calling his opponents "children."
Oh, and nice blog. Keep up the good work.
bingmantch is right on! the pic is right on. someone called the pic "hysterically funny" for a joke to be funny, there must be an element of truth in it"
the anonymous poster said "FDR and churchill were great leaders despite their background."
can you say the same about any of the people in the pic?
and chad M. edwards [kin to the slip and fall lawyer from N.C. John?]said bush lied us into Iraq, and changed bankruptcy laws"
i suggest the cousin of "jackpot justice johnny" read the Robb/Silverman comission report. you see, the senate had a grand commission about this, and studied it,[government is good at studying things ya know] and found NO evidence tampering took place.several on the commission, one i can think of quick, john mccain, said that CIA op after CIA op testified under oath, that they were not pressured into altering any evidence concerning Iraq. Not a single person said any tampering or pressuring took place. even george tenant[clinton appointee i might add] said it was a "slam dunk"
Jackpot Jr, should maybe read the report, before calling the commander in chief a liar.and adding to the list of talking points that the kook liberals have already given to saddam and UBL.
"Bankruptcy reform!!!!" jackpot Jr cries????
HEAVAN FORBID SOMEONE HAS TO PAY THEIR CREDIT CARD BILLS!!!!!WHAT NERVE!!TO SAY THEY MUST PAY THEM OFF!
This blog proves that anyone can blog if they want to.
And bingmanch--why the criticism of being anonymous? Is "bingmanch" your real name? Aren't you also posting anonymously?
Yes, bingmanch is my real name.
Next.
If you ever want to be taken seriously - you will need to tell people who you REALLY are and what your background and education is to make all the comments you do - until then - you are a coward - what are you SO afraid of anyway - and how long do you think it is really gonna take to expose you for who you really are - its gonna happen - when YOU least want or expect it!
hahaha!! this from an anonyomous poster!
the maha bingmanch owes you nothing! he smiteth you down with a swipe of the hand.
i eagerly wait for the next great post and dash of brilliance from the maha bingmanch.
i hope he bashes the congressman nick joe al-yaser rahall and exposes his power trips to the middle east paid for by qater, the egyptian government, and other turbin wearing suspicious individuals.
oh yea! dont forget all those trips to the greenbrier paid for by CSX. he is on the transportaion committee ya know!
No one said bingmanch owes anyone anything. The advice was simply that if he has any aspirations of being considered mature, responsible and credible by anyone looking for mature, responsible and credible commentary he should refrain from the childish and irresponsible comments that detract from credibility.
He is perfectly free to ignore that advice. the problem is that if he does so it becomes more difficult for his posts to form the basis for any meaningful discussion and his blog will end up being dominated by people like you because everyone else will after giving him a chance to improve conclude that it is not going to happen and look elsewhere.
If that is what he wants-- more power to him.
And yet, you are still here, and have posted god knows how many messages in the other thread. Whether my comments are up to your standards for "maturity" or not, is not my concern in the least. In fact, I read and listen to what you'd probably call "mature" discussions in the newspapers, and on Hoppy's show, and quite frankly, many of them are either lacking in intelligence, or, are simply pandering to the idiot assholes running this pathetic excuse for a state.
After having that kind of "media" be what's generally accepted as the "mature" media in WV, I think it's more than appropriate to call them on their bullshit. When some legislator decides it's time for a 50% pay hike for themselves and big raises for their top level administrators and appointeees (who, are largely political flunkies who usually don't know shit one, about whatever their job is, and appointing such idiots to those positions, only proves that the jobs really aren't worth that much money in the first place) like is currently being kicked around, I, along with everyone else who isn't some lockstep pandering part of the problem, sees that for what it is. Pure, unadulterated bullshit, and it needs to be described as such. When you are "nice" to these assholes in charge, they simply smile back at you and pretend you are not there.
Oh, and you are still free to leave at any time.
i am just amazed at these political appointees in cabinet positions making 80k a year. for jobs so easy that a lot of these guys can do 2 of them at the same time!
manchin trys to act all concerned about wv state debt, but he is not really. hell, he bought the $3100 persian rug for the office.
the DOT bought 55 new ford explorers for the county heads of each county, the fords replaced jeep libertys, half of which had less then 25K miles! oh yea and the best part, mojo said "while yalls at the ford store, pick me a nice one out too and make it an even 56!"
manchin does not care 1 little bit about paying off the debt.
he is just making sure he keeps all the special interest groups happy so he wins reelection, all the while keeping an eye on sheets so if he kicks the bucket mojo can appoint himself to the senate.
No one is saying be "nice" to them. I have no problem with you being critical of them or even "mean" to them.
I'm suggesting you try to add some SUBSTANCE to your criticism rather than simply calling people names.
"Lacking in intelligence"
"Idiot assholes"
"Pathetic excuse for a state"
That's from ONE paragraph you wrote and that's not "calling anyone on their BS" it's juvenile name-calling.
I encourage you to call people on their BS but you DON'T do that. You just toss around junior high insults while very occasionally and superficially even mentioning any actual issues. Even when you do mention an issue alll you do is mention it and then call anyone with a different position on it another name.
You say the people you dislike "lack intelligense" but why should I or anyone else think you are not equally or more guilty of that based on what you have to say? Why should I think you are not "pandering" the same as they are but simply to a different group?
This state has many serious problems and many of them are created or at least made worse by our leadershipo. However, merely stating those leaders' names and caling them assholes, iddiots and whatever does absolutely nothing worthwhile.
I stay for a couple of reasons. Mainly, there a couple of other visitors with whom it is possible to have an intelligent conversation. Also, I (perhaps foolishly) figured you might be able to put aside the silliness when it was pointed out to you how bad it appears and how deeply it detracts from your credibility.
If I'm wrong and all you intend to do is call people names and whine over and over about how everyone sucks and how much you hate them, I won't be here much longer.
I won't be here much longer.
We can only hope.
Well if you want this blog to be a forum for nothing but your inanity and wvrepub's stupidity, adios.
The two of you should have some scintillating discussions.
This post has been removed by a blog administrator.
Just make sure you stay gone.
That way you won't be exposed as a liar.
first,mr. anonymous attacked bingmanch for not telling us who he is and what education he has, then he attacks him for calling names.
make up your mind dude!
and wants to call me stupid!!!
hey! if he wants to call names fine! its his blog! you want a blog run a certain way, you start one yourself.
and big bad Bing is still hiding his identity - guess he is ashamed of who he is. How sad. Again I say - his identity WILL be exposed - when he least expects it or wants it to happen! (of course to avoid all that - he could do it here himself on his terms - in HIS timeframe. Don't ya love choices?!

While he frets over my identity, I already know his.
SA.
Oh, and he's anything BUT a democrat. He's a dyed in the wool republican, bible banger, steven reed slurping, creationist preaching kook.
He just doesn't like that I call his guys jackasses when appropriate, too. He can't handle me on the issues, so he keeps harping on trying to expose my identity.
Thanks for the comments on our leaders.
I remember somebody commenting after Shelley Moore Capeeto was elected to the Congress: "Mr. Capeeto didn't have anything to worry about with her being over in D.C. and he being here in charge of the stock brokerage."
Mr. Capeeto's family has tons of money and this may have been a contributing factor in the rommance/marriage of the two. Arch Alfred loved that money.
There was quite a stir in the press when the two were married while daddy Arch A. was governor. Moore commandeered the Cultural Center lobby for the exclusive use of Shelley and Charles' reception. The general public was not allowed inside the building during this event. Other groups and individuals were not permitted to rent the Cultural Center lobby for any reason. Moore got to use the Cultural Center for his family's use without paying for the use of it. Some people called "fowl" at the time and stated that they were going to attempt to enter the facility at the time of the reception. Nothing came out of it. It should be noted here that some people use the Capitol building for weddings.
There is a story going around that Shelley may try to get herself elected governor (and/or maybe Senata) so she can get big daddy pardoned.
Does the apple fall far from the tree?
First of all it's CAPITO. Second it is disgusting to claim she married Charles for his money and are you suggesting no one in congress should have a spouse with a job?. Third, they were not married while Arch was Governor, but in between his terms so that whole story is just a malicious lie. Fourth, Arch was convicted of federal crimes and only the President can issue pardons for those. Arch might well want a pardon but how on earth would it make any difference whether she was in the House, Senate or Governor's Office?
Making up lies and claiming stories are going around for no purpose other than to attck people is slimy.
Arch would be interested in getting his law license back, and that could be done by the WV Supreme Court, or maybe the Governor. Not that it really matters he currently practices law on 7th street in Moundsville and has his partners sign as lawyer. Happening 1/2 block from the Marshall County Courthouse. Interesting, true story.
CP
Only the WVSCA can restore his law license-- with or without a pardon. Arch already petioned to get his law license back and the Supreme Court refused. He might well have got it back if he had simply admitted his crimes and said he was sorry; it's worked for a lot of other lawyers with a lot less pull than he has. Of course, Arch is too arrogant to do that so the court concluded he had not been rehabilitiated because admitting your crimes and being sorry is necessary for that.
Being disbarred he can't "practice law" but he can work for attorneys doing "legal work." He can't appear in court, sign court papers or give "legal advice and counsel" to clients but but he can write legal papers that are reviewed and signed by a lawyer-- then the lawyer becomes responsible for their content. As a non-lawyer he also cannot be a partner in a law firm organized as a partnership or a member of a firm organizes as a PLLC and he cannot have any shoer of profit sharing arrangement but he can be an employee -- just like any paralegal even if he gets paid more than most.
It would be interesting to know what type of financial relationship he has had with lawyers since he has been disbarred to see if any of the rules have been violated.
He does not need any money, remember he stole at least $500,000 and who knows how much more. No one cares if he has any business relationship with a lawyer!
CP
I'm sure he doesn't "need" money. He didn't need monsy when he was extorting folks either. He was already very well off. He extorted money because he wanted to use it to win elections and have power not because he needed it to live on.
but getting the license would be important to him for ego related reasons. The guy's like 80 somethinbg so he isn't going to be doing a whole lot with or without a license but he would be able to claim he was vindicated in the end and some people would actually buy it. That is what he "needs."
You might not care about his relationships with certain lawyers but I can bet you any amount of money that certain otyher lawyers competeing with those lawyers care and would love to "turn them in" if they had access to records showing rules were broken. I can also guarantee that political enmemies of Arch would love any dirt if they could get their hands on it,
You have to be very naive to think no one cares.
I'm not naive as you think. WV politics has moved on to bigger fish, they already fried him! As for his business arrangements those could be found in Secretary of States office, so he would not be that bold. I think Arch would have a good shot at winning if he ran for public office. Name recognition is paramount in WV politics. Remember A James, he was voted into the House after his BS. I like how no one in WV puts it together that Papa Joe rode his coat tails into public office, remember name recognition. The naive people of WV are hook-line-sinker on PAPA. Time will tell, and we just never learn.
CP
You are bnoth naive and ill-informed. When you combine that with your unwarranted
Law firms organized as simple partnerships are not required to register with the SOS at all and even limited partnerships and corporations are not required to provide financial information such as that to the SOS.
Such information is required to be reported to the IRS but no one, including the State Bar has access to that information unless a court order is obtained and that can't be had based merely on curiousity.
Even if you had such information, it would be very difficult to show a rules violation strongly enough for it to stand up in court. If someone wanted to allow an employee to share in profits without it appearing that way it would be easy enough. Just call it a salary bonus and pay bigger ones in better years.
You are clearly both naive and have an inflated opinion of yourself. No one failed to recognize the fact the A. James was Joe's uncle or didn't understand the advanatage of his having the Manchin name. So many people here clearly demonstrate why the opposition almost always loses to the establishment.
You are not going to get anywhere so long as you hold the general public in contempt. All that does is get the contempt returned.
The politicians you dislike do not win because the voters are stupid. They win because the voters are not presented with better options. Poorly informed blowhards who don't even understand the issues let alone have better ideas about them make bad candidates. When those people yet somehow think they are the smart ones they make REALLY BAD CANDIDATES.
A. James won for the House after his debacle as Treasurer because enough people who knew him liked him. That should be a lesson.
When the opposition's entire case for change usually boils down to: "things suck and its because you stupid voters keep re-electing the same bad people; if you had any sense you'd vote for me" there is no real mystery why that rarely happens.
Well, I was wrong about the business tracking, sounds like a secret society!
As for having a platform, what do you propose, how would one get the message out, and how do you get the current politician to debate said points? If the people of Marion County were able to vote A James in after his BS how can one be capable of beating an incumbent that just teeters on being ineffective? Classic example can be found on Hiram Lewis's web site, just gives the problems, mostly State problems with no solution or plan. Hell I know the problems tell me how you will solve them with a plan! Just listen close to candidates all you get are sound bites very little substance. NAME RECOGNITION as I say is just about impossible to beat. Most potential candidates don't want to spend own money with about 10% chance of winning. The incumbent gets soft money from those they have helped or will help. Most state level positions were not obtained through unseating an incumbent, but because the seat was open. I know exceptions exist, but most happen as I profess.
CP
No one said it was easy. I just said it becomes close to impossible when the opposition is such as it is in this state.
It's EXTREMELY difficult to beat an incumbent who doesn't get himself in extreme trouble. That's true here and everywhere else.
It's hard to draw attention to one's campaign and unless one is rich very difficult to raise money.
To the extent, most "opposition" candidates in WV are by definition Republicans they have even more handicaps. The Party is not only broke and lacking in committed and capable volunteers to assist candidates, it is actually a liability because it is controlled to such an extent by people NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND wants anywhere near power.
So, a first step is for rational people to gain control of the Party. Capehart is trying but he lacks any real power base and will likely tire of trying to put a reasonable face on a Party dominated by No Tax and No Government-- except to impose our religion and our morals on you crowd. If he can't pull it off the Party won;t do well in 2008 and beyond in state races. (It's pretty much certain it won't do well this year so this should be viewed as a year to assemble a team capable of being built upon for the future while keeping losses low.)
Then when and if rational people gain control of the Party there needs to be some focus. Don't waste time "getting somebody to run in every race"; that causes 2 big problems. It diffuses what resources exist so that they help almost no one and it means that a lot of those somebodies are complete nut jobs whose idiocy can then be used to smear all Republicans making it harder for the few good ones who are running to win.
It's a lot smarter to target resources on efforts on a smaller number of races against potentially beatable incumbents AND RECRUIT AND SUPPORT GOOD PEOPLE TO RUN.
Then once you have some degree of success you can incrementally move forward. There ain't gonna be no revolution cuz very few want one.
The Republican Party has not even reached the stage where anywhere near a majority consider it a responsible and credible opposition Party. Until that is accomplished it will never be a majority Party even when a majority of voyters are more than willing to vote for some of its candidates.
Recently smart Republicans in this State have staked out an independent position and ignored and sometimes even oppoised the Party structure (Moore, Underwood, Capito). They then are able to attract enough Democrats to win because they don't scare them away by being aligned with the nut jobs.
It would be a lot better for Republicans if they could run WITH their Party and feel safe they won't be dragged down to defeat by the nut jobs. Getting rid of the Warners was a necessary first step but it is far from the end of the work that needs to be done.
The best part is "wvgop" is the same "anonymous" who was whining earlier about name calling and how the blog was juvenile and then he said he was going to leave.
I told him to make sure he stayed gone, that way, he wouldn't be branded a liar.
So, he comes back, with a new name.
I know it's him, because he posts from the same IP address as the anonymous guy.
It's pretty pathetic, that someone who claims this blog is juvenile, and is not evidently up to his standards, would go to all the extra trouble of now creating a new name for himself, instead of the "anonymous" tag he was previously using, and then trying to pass it off as someone new, just to post on a blog he says is "immature."
And the funny thing is? He claimed to be neither a D or a R, but a staunch independent, but now chooses the name "wvgop?"
Absolutely pathetic. I thought you said you were leaving?
Now you are a confirmed liar. Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.
What are you talking about? I have posted here several times before and I use WVGOP because I am a Republican but I don't want to be confused with WVRepublican. I am not whichever anonymous you are talking about or any of the others and I'm not even sure which one has your panties in a bunch because there seem to be a lot of them who don't even like each other.
I have never said anything but that i am a Republican. I defended Capito from what was a BS attack on her. I'm a WV Republican who is just not very happy with how the State Party has been run into the ground and i answered anon's question about how i think more Repubs
could win in the State over time.
Why that upsets you and causes you call me a liar I don't know.
I like this blog... I believe the author of this blog has good points, with his hilarious interpretation on stuff that goes on here in WV.
Keep up the good work, Bing!
Jim
thanks for the comments. WVGOP please check the wedding announcement for Charles and Shelley, which was in the Gazette. The wedding was in 1976, while Moore was still Governor.
The moniker "Capeeto" is what our commander-in-chief addressed her as.
I like Shelley and generally think she is doing a good job. Seems like a nice person. She needs to "come clean" on the Tom DeLay/Abramoff business, however. Donating the Abramoff money to a charity is a form of buying votes. Why doesn't she return it to Abramoff? He'll need it after he goes to jail to take care of all of his kids and wife. That Indian wampon doesn't go too far these days in Allenwood or whatever country club camp he will attend.
I could see Shelley putting in a word or two with Bush or whomever is in the oval orifice to give Daddy some type of pardon. Especially, if she is able to win Bobby Big (Sheets) Byrd's or Rocky's seat eventually. Shelley appears to be in favor with the wheels in the party. Also, if she is governor, she certainly would be listened to by a (especially Republican) president. Probably more than your average bum on Quarrier St.
Now, some may say that Shelley can't be faulted for what her old man did while he was governor. I agree to an extent, but she was in college (and an adult) part of the time while 'ol Archie was in the governor's office. If he was taking money illegally then, she was gaining from it, as was her old lady. To do so and not ask questions would be akin to the family of the mob boss not asking where all that money came from that bought those cars and furs. You don't have to accept the money.
The late Jack Anderson went after Arch in 1970, not long after the start of Moore's first gubernatorial term. Shelley was in high school at the time. Anderson had been following the exploits of Moore since his congressional days. According to Anderson, Moore liked to be known as "a country squire" and he had a big home in rural Virginia with horse stables.
Another thing, it was Shelley who chose to go by the name Shelley MOORE Capito. She was using his name for recognition. Why not simply use Shelley Moore or Shelley Capito? I realize some ladies today don't like to take the hubby's name.
So, if you use the name of the father to gain publicity, you are open to the reasons the father was well known. This is akin to celebrities who use the media for publicity and then get mad at the same media when something derogatory is reported.
Bing,
Why don't you get involved and participate? You seem to have all of the negatives of these people memorized. Boy, I bet you are a blast to hang with in social situations. Gov. Manchin has no substance? You have got to be kidding me. He has done more in 2 1/2 years than the last 3 put together. Simply ask and I will provide that info. Too much to type at this setting. You rant because they are Democrats, except Capito and you want the power shifted to the right. Fine. That is your prerogative. But your boy, George Bush is, singlehandedly, destroying any chance of that happening anytime soon. Watch these mid-term elections and you'll see firsthand what I'm talking about. Why didn't you throw Bush in the mix. He rode his daddy'd coattails and instead of destroying a state, like you claim against the above mentioned, he has destroyed our entire country. I'll take Joe Manchin any day of the week over George Bush. Any day of the week!!!
Who own a $100,000 automobile, a 500,000 boat, a 500,000 airplane and a $30,000 harley, a home in WV, a home in NC near the beach, and acts and lives like a Royal Prince.
It's not a Bill Gates, he has opened a lot of Coal Gates and he claims to have come up in Poverty. His Grand father, aka, Also God father, handed down from father to oldest sons, had a General Store in Farmington WV and now the family owns most of the Town.
You would have to flip a coin, to campare him with Prez. Bush. Another hint he's a God Father, with 120 vowels in his family. Also Bush has Advisors and this person is the advisor.
Don't know yet? Well another hint, this peron lives in the Gov,s Mansion.
How many vowels do you think has been appointed to Big Positions, with big pay in the last 2,1/2 years.
Still don't know? Go to Farmington WV and ask some one there who the biggest crooks in town. There you will find the answer.
OOOOH, I forgot one of the con-men is not a vowel, his name is Kastic, later to be called a fall guy.
I would like too add a request to this, what ever.
Would you Mr Bing and A Mr Vito help me on spilling the beans on this, very personable, power hungry, person?
Hey there anonymous, you for got The Prince, also has a home/condo, on Ruffner Ave, almost in sight of the Mansion, going toward the airport.
How did he accumulate all of his wealth and spend 20 years in the legislature, ar the same time, He was raised a pooBoy, so he says.
If what you say is true ,his wealth could be handed from the family, if like you say, he's a true God Father.
Typical I don't have it so you shouldn't either mentality of jealous, petty individuals who can't come to grips with the fact that they'll probably never amount to much in this lifetime. What is so laughable is the amounts used to describe Manchin's ownership interests. You clearly do not have a clue of the amounts these assets cost, so please stop embarrassing yourself. You ask how he accumulated these possessions? My guess is he worked for them; the same thing I am trying to do. Hell, my goal is to own a jet. It may not happen, but it is my goal. I love how people imply that he somehow stole all that he has. Don't you think if that was the case, his ass would be in the slammer? I mean he is Italian for Christ's sake! The Redneck racsist's in this state would surely lock his immigrant ass away IF THEY COULD FIND SOMETHING ILLEGAL ON HIM. But I forgot, Arch Moore was the one who was locked away. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
A Home in North Carolina? Where do you get this trash for information? I suspect the same place Bush got his intelligence for Iraq having weapons of mass destruction.
Man, I really didn't read the rest of your post until now on guessing who the so-called God Father is? Wow, you truly are a piece of trash. I mean it is 2006 and you degrade people using stereotypes from the late 1800's. Go back to your shed in the holler and sleep with your aunt mommy or a sheep whichever is closer. What a racist waste of human organs.
to the above commenter:
you are no better than the person you are commenting about. you talk about people using stereotypes to degrade others, yet you are doing the same with your 'go back to the holler and screw your aunt, mother, sheep' garbage. before you criticize other people, you need to take a good look in the mirror!
