Well, well, well. Look who's back.
First up, let's go with talk radio's incessant obsession with all things irrelevant. Hoppy, and then Chicago Furlip (Mike Agnello) and company on 58Live, had what seemed like HOURS of coverage of Betty Ireland's decision to NOT run for Senate. Why the hell is this even news? And more importantly, why is this news of the magnitude that she has to come on the radio, on multiple shows and talk about the decision to not run for US Senate? Talk about wasting airtime. So, the net effect is, the very same people who were/are running for US Senate today, were/are the same ones who were running yesterday. Yet we had to listen to Betty Ireland drone on and on about how she'd run a great campaign, IF she actually ran? Betty, shut the hell up and quit being such a media whore. And Hoppy, show some backbone, and kick these time wasters off your show, even if she's the Secretary of State, if they have nothing of value to say. You are supposed to be more than just a paid PR outlet for these jokers. She had nothing of value to say. Of course Chicago Furlip, was just a gushing fan of Ireland's, because she's a Republican and therefore (according to Furlip Logic 101) just this side of a saint. But, 58Live is such a pathetic excuse for a show, with basically no journalistic credibility (unlike Hoppy's show); I guess that's about par for the course with them. It was enough to make me want to puke.
Let's move on. How about that Dave Hardesty? Man, does he know how to work the system or WHAT? He already gets a quarter million dollars per year, a free house, a free car, a nice big fat expense account, and yet, he somehow, still needs MORE money? To the tune of 10% raise? The WVU Board of Governors approved a $25,000 raise for him? And this is for a guy, who didn't even get the job fair and square in the FIRST place. And yet, the faculty only get the $900 crumb the legislature threw down? Dave and company better watch out. You piss off enough faculty, and they can make life a bit rough for the administration, and I'm betting that time can't be too far off.
And on top of that, you have the normal shills out there saying, "Oh, but there's nobody but Dave, who would DO this job for what little bit we pay." To that, I simply say "bullshit." If Dave is such hot stuff, that he's worth all this money, why hasn't he moved on to bigger and better universities? Oh, that's right. They wouldn't hire him. Aside from being WVU's president, he doesn't have any experience in Higher Education (aside from being an appointed Yes Man to the Board of Trustees). No self-respecting university outside of WV would hire him, because he's a joke as far as academia is concerned. Hell, the guy from Marshall a couple years ago moved on to the University of Tennessee, and DOUBLED his salary. If Dave was such a hotshot kickass president, you'd think Ohio State, or Penn State, or some other bigtime institution would be beating down his door. But alas, that doesn't seem to be the case. Nobody wants Dave (rightly so), but we are stuck with him. The only people who think Hardesty is worth a $25,000 raise, are people who are already part of the problem.
And he also now makes an additional $70,000 for being a figurehead for Consol Energy, to boot? A coal company thinks he's a great guy, but no bigtime colleges are lusting after him to come right their listing ships? Yet, he's running the flagship institution in the state and worthy of these big raises? It's no wonder WV is last in just about any category that matters.
But, let's move on. How about Hoppy having Jill Bentz, chief industry shill for the insurance companies in WV explaining all these great rate reductions on his show on Thursday? I know my rate went down a whole 5 bucks a month. Wow. A whole extra 60 bucks a year. I guess I can apply that to my rising gas bill, and now only have to come up with another couple hundred dollars to square that up at the end of the year. Yeah, give up consumers' right to sue insurance companies for bad faith, for an extra 60 bucks a year. That wouldn't even pay for 15 minutes worth of work for an insurance industry lawyer (like Bentz) on a case. I especially love how Bentz kept belaboring the point that she was also looking for "affordable" insurance, and this removal of third party bad faith suits was a great law. She's married to a hospital CEO and she's an insurance defense lawyer. I'm sure her definition of "affordable" probably equates with "outrageous" for the rest of us. Please, Jill, spare us the poverty stories about how you can't acquire "affordable" insurance.
Moooooooooooving right along. Anyone remember this post about Raymond Richardson? Raymond's part is down at the end of the post. Just remember, you heard it here, way back in February. Well, Ray evidently likes to drive around on an expired license, and without insurance, but he never forgets to leave home without a dead girl in the back seat. I bet Albright, McGraw (wherever he is now) and Starcher still sleep real well at night, knowing they cut a WVSC worker's kid some slack on his 30 year prison sentence. Raymond's made such a fine contribution to society with what amounts to about his 5th chance now.
Lately, if you've been paying attention, you'll notice our boy Donny, "Leave me alone and I'll give you all the flat land you want" Blankenship has been rumbling about going after Larry Starcher the same way he went after Warren McGraw last election. I wouldn't be surprised if Raymond Richardson doesn't begin appearing nightly on your tv alongside Tony Arbaugh in Don Blankenship financed ads sometime around 2008.
I've got more stuff, like the Lincoln County vote buyers, Danny "Worker Fee" Jones demonstrating his amazing automobile accident reconstruction abilities, Papa Joe hanging with the Right to Lifers, and being a little too cozy (for the rank and file Dems) with Bush, and a Mingo County Watergate update, but that should be enough ranting for now. We'll get to the others soon enough. They aren't going anywhere.
