And so it begins.....
Greetings!!! This blog will be an attempt to shed some light on the political shennanigans and general outright thievery perpetrated on the good folks of West Virginia by their elected "officials." This blog will also focus on Charleston area politics, along with other political issues throughout the great State of West Virginia, as they are relevant. Additionally, there will be analysis and critique of how the local media outlets cover these issues.
The problem is, that most media outlets in West Virginia are beholden to the political elite for access, and therefore are loathe to really bite the hand that feeds them. Without access to the "newsmakers," you can't sell newspapers, or tv and radio ad time. Sure, you'll have the odd Jerry Mezzatesta or Mike Ross or Randy Schoonover scandal that the West Virginia media outlets will doggedly follow to conclusion. However most news items about the political hacks and professional politicians ripping off the taxpayers have a lifespan of about 2 days in the West Virginia media outlets. Consequently, the political scumbags only have to stay silent and out of the public for a couple days until the clamor dies down, and then they are back at whatever corrupt and unethical acts they were doing. And more often than not, nothing is ever done to these politicians, as most of them are part of what's generally referred to as the "good 'ol boy network."
In our society, the media is charged with riding shotgun for the public, and should ferret this stuff out. However, because of the small, tight-knit culture in West Virginia, the media often shirks their responsibility. Sure, they may report a few facts, but often, they are lacking in the appropriate amount of outrage because of either their own pecuinary interest, or sometimes because of their sheer outright ignorance. The Charleston newspapers are probably the only "real" newspapers in the State, and they do a barely passable job in reporting on graft, corruption, and ethical shennanigans.
In the realm of talk radio, Hoppy Kercheval's Metro News Talkline is probably the most important talk radio show on West Virginia politics, but again, he's a bit too cozy with some of the political elite on occasion. Lesser, more local-themed talk radio like WCHS's 58 Live, also have serious issues with their competence, and thoroughness of investigating these issues. This blog will hopefully help remedy some of these inadequacies. I am what you would consider a moderate. Hence, I dislike (and generally disdain) both Rush Limbaugh fanboys, as well as Micheal Moore fanboys. I will FREELY criticize both jackass democrats and jerkoff republicans as they warrant such criticism, and if there's one thing they can excel at, it's warranting criticism. Right wing religious nutjobs along with Feminazis and PC Thought Police will equally feel my wrath. So, this will most likely be a wild ride, I hope you are ready.
